In the heart of Alaska's famous Bristol Bay region lies sprawling Lake Iliamna, 80 miles long by 20 miles across, with depths to over 1,000 feet. Numerous rivers and creeks feed into the lake, which drains into Bristol Bay via the sixty mile long Kvichak River. This is trophy rainbow trout country, and the largest spawning area in the world for sockeye salmon. At the mouth of the Kvichak, where Iliamna's water picks up speed as it sweeps along the gravel beach, sits Ole Creek Lodge. Our magnificent location provides a panoramic view of the lake and the river.

Every year, in early July, millions of sockeye pass by the lodge on their way to spawning streams further up the lake. Guests fishing within 200 yards of the lodge can land dozens of these powerful salmon during a typical long summer day. The river mouth also yields big rainbow trout, especially in the months of September and October. |
 |
The Kvichak
is a broad and powerful river. Its many channels and islands offer
anglers a wonderful diversity of settings, from deep pools, to wide
runs, to tiny creeks. A trip downriver brings guests to the incredible
Kaskanak Flats, where the Kvichak divides into a myriad of channels
as it filters through a vast marshland. Here, plucky arctic grayling
can be caught on dry flies, or acrobatic trout can be lured from undercut
blanks with wet flies. |
|
The slow waters of the nearby Kaskanak River can offer fast action on northern pike. Where the Kaskanak and other small rivers pour into the Kvichak, pink salmon and silver salmon congregate in great numbers during the month of August. This is wild country, and even regular visitors are thrilled by the sight of eagles, caribou, moose and the awesome brown bear. |

Our fishing season begins in early June and extends to the first week of October. The highlights are the trophy rainbow trout fishing (especially in the early and late portions of the season) the sockeye run in early July and the silver run in August.
We also have excellent grayling fishing thoughout the season. Lodging policy is that "Catch and Release" is practiced for all native fish, but salmon may be kept in accordance with fish and game laws. Salmon catches, if desired, can be cleaned and frozen for guests to take home.
Depending on the circumstances, guests may choose to fish from the
boat, from the bank or by wading. All levels of experience are accommodated!
At Ole Creek Lodge we offer a quality fishing experience in real Alaskan
wilderness at a reasonable cost. We will do everything we can to make
your trip the adventure of a lifetime. |
